Bailouts

Should the government bail out the auto makers or should they let them figure it out themselves? What does everyone think? Support your answers please.

  1. Brainy, I am a person who believes in the free market. I would hate to see Ford or Chevy go out of business but if we bail them out we move one step closer to socialism. I was against the bank bail out and I am against this bail out. Someone will pick up the pieces a make a better company. That is how it has to work. MSK

  2. I would rather se the auto companies bailed out than the damn bankers. It is not my fault you sold a house to someone that could not make the payments and I believe we need to keep out car companies from going under because then we would import even more cars from foreigners. I think they should help them out but they should also make them start building the cars of the future. If we can get rid of the oil companies influence I am sure we can do alot better as a nation

  3. Redman, substandard autos with poor gas mileage is one problem but it is also the Unions that are a big chunk of the problem. They force auto makers to pay higher wages, the even pay people when their not working. Nissan, Toyota and so on don't have that problem. Plus they build better cars. MSK

  4. I wouldn't say they build better cars, if you look around at all brands and compare apples to apples they are all very competitive with each other.

  5. Auto makers have to constantly look at the future and also know in a gas crunch SVU's and gas hogs are not an obtion to keep dumping on the car lots for people without a brain, to buy for a moment of happiness, then realize the gas consumpton and the payments do not fit their budjet. I feel strongly that if you support this bail out, then I want bailed out also. I live within my paycheck, its my only obtion. I have to cut and cut. My question is- why do I have to be responsible with money, but my country doesn't. Gas prices caused groceries to go rise, yet when gas dropped did grocery costs drop? I didn't get stupid and purchase a home I could only afford the interest. I can't blame this all on our country. People are stupid, also. My vote is for people to be responsible with their paychecks, and NO TO THE BAIL OUT. joy

  6. They need to file bankruptcy and then restructure their company. They get to renegotiate their contracts. They pay people $75 an hour to sit at home. That has to end before they can become competative. Bail them out and you prolong their death. MSK
